HÉRCULES, A SAGA: II-11 - HIGHWAY TO HADES

Hades (Erik Thomson) dispatches several fierce warriors to find Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) and when they confront him in a country inn, a heated battle ensues. Hercules prevails, but when he steps outside, Hades appears and sends two bolts of lightning through him, knocking him unconscious. The God of the Underworld thunders off with Hercules in the back of his chariot. When they reach the shore of the River Styx, where Charon (Michael Hurst) is ferrying the newly departed across to the Other Side, Hades points out a handsome young man named Timuron (Craig Hall) and reveals that he has done nothing to deserve the severe punishment which awaits him. Hades explains that King Sisyphus of Corinth (Ray Henwood) tricked Timuron on the young man's wedding night into taking his place. He urges Hercules to go after the King and bring him back to the Underworld so that Timuron's spirit will be allowed to rest in the Elysian Fields where it belongs. Hercules is told he can take the spirit of Timuron with him, but is warned that they must be back within three days or the young man's spirit will be doomed to wander forever. Hercules accepts the assignment and sets out with Timuron -- whom only Hercules can see and hear -- to enlist the help of Iolaus (Michael Hurst).

As Hercules, Iolaus and Timuron make their way to Corinth, Timuron becomes very emotional and starts to materialize. For the first time, Iolaus is able to see the young man as a ghostly apparition. Knowing he'll scare people out of their wits if he's seen, Hercules and Iolaus leave him to wait in a shed outside of town as they head for Sisyphus' palace. After battling the guards at the palace gates, they finally make contact with the King, who admits he did a terrible thing to Timuron and agrees to return with them to the Underworld. Binding his hands with a rope, they march him back to the shed only to be told by Timuron that their prisoner is an impostor (Ray Henwood). Meanwhile, the real King Sisyphus, whose wife Karis (Leslie Wing) has been unable to have children, summons Timuron's beautiful young widow Daphne (Angela Gribbon) and offers to make her Queen if she agrees to bear him an heir. Daphne becomes very upset and rejects his proposal.

Later, when Timuron slips away from Hercules and Iolaus to find Daphne, he begins to materialize once again as his emotions get the best of him. When he confronts his beloved in his semi-transparent state, she runs off in terror, almost knocking over Hercules and Iolaus who have come looking for her late husband. Word spreads fast that there's a ghost loose in the town and when Hercules and Iolaus are attacked by a cadre of the King's guards, the soldiers flee in fear as soon as Timuron appears. When Daphne returns home thoroughly confused and distraught, Hercules is there waiting for her. He explains his mission and Timuron's tragic predicament, and asks for her help in gaining entrance to the palace so that he and Iolaus can capture the King and return him to Hades.

Daphne agrees and is able to sneak them past the palace guards and direct them to the King's chamber, where they take Sisyphus captive. While waiting in another room, Daphne is visited again by her beloved Timuron. Overcome with love and emotion, she tells him she wants to die so that they can be together again on the Other Side. Timuron races to Hercules for help just as Daphne is about to throw herself from the tower. Leaving Iolaus to guard the King, Hercules is able to prevent Daphne's suicide, but when he returns to collect Sisyphus, he finds that Iolaus has been taken prisoner by Queen Karis and the King's guards. Sisyphus asks that Daphne be taken to his room. However, Karis angrily objects and finally learns the truth about her husband's treachery. A battle breaks out when Iolaus is able to free his hands using a knife shoved his way by an invisible Timuron, who materializes once again, sending the King's guards running in fear. In the end, Daphne and Queen Karis help Hercules catch the King before he can make his escape. Hercules returns Sisyphus to Hades in the nick of time and convinces the God of the Underworld to bend the rules a bit and allow Timuron and Daphne to enjoy one night of their honeymoon together before saying goodbye.

Hades tinha enviado alguns de seus ferozes guerreiros para encontrar Hercules, e quando o confrontaram, numa certa estalagem, houve uma calorosa batalha, da qual Hercules saiu vitorioso. Mas, quando ele se retirou para ir-se embora, o próprio deus do Submundo apareceu e lançou sobre ele duas bolas de fogo, que o atingiram, deixando-o inconsciente. Hades, então, desapareceu em meio a um estrondo, levando Hercules em sua carruagem.
Quando chegaram à margem do Rio Styx, onde Caronte estava embarcando os recém-falecidos na travessia para o outro Lado, Hades apontou para um jovem chamado Timuron e revelou que ele nada fizera para merecer a severa punição que o aguardava. Hades explicou que o rei Sisyphus, de Corinto, havia traído e emboscado Timuron na noite de seu casamento para tomar seu lugar. Ele então pediu a Hercules para ir atrás do rei e trazê-lo de volta para o Submundo, e assim a alma de Timuron poderia ir para os Campos Elísios, onde verdadeiramente pertencia. Hercules foi instruído a levar a alma de Timuron com ele, mas deveria retornar em três dias, ou o mesmo estaria condenado a vagar eternamente. Hercules aceitou a missão, e partiu com Timuron – na verdade o espírito do jovem, que somente Hercules podia ver e ouvir – para buscar a ajuda de Iolaus.
Enquanto Hercules, Iolaus e Timuron tomavam o rumo de Corinto, Timuron se tornava muito emocional, e começava a se materializar. Na primeira vez, Iolaus foi capaz de ver o rapaz como uma aparição fantasmagórica. Sabendo que ele assustaria as pessoas que o vissem, Hercules e Iolaus o deixaram esperando fora da cidade enquanto iam procurar o palácio de Sisyphus. Depois de enfrentar os guardas nos portões do palácio, eles finalmente conseguiram chegar ao rei, que admitiu ter feito uma coisa terrível a Timuron, e concordou em retornar com eles para o Submundo. Eles amarraram-lhe as mãos com uma corda, e o conduziram para o local onde haviam deixado o rapaz, apenas para descobrir que seu prisioneiro era um impostor. Enquanto isso, o verdadeiro rei Sisyphus, cuja esposa, Karis, era estéril, convidou a bela e jovem viúva, Daphne, oferecendo-lhe fazê-la rainha se ela concordasse em lhe gerar um herdeiro. Daphne ficou muito triste e rejeitou a proposta.
Mais tarde, quando Timuron fugiu de junto de Hercules e Iolaus para encontrar-se com Daphne, suas emoções afloraram novamente, e ele começou a materializar-se. Ao ver seu amado naquele estado semi-transparente, ela ficou aterrorizada, e saiu correndo, quase colidindo com Hercules e Iolaus, que procuravam seu falecido esposo.
A notícia de que havia um fantasma na cidade se espalhou depressa, e quando Hercules e Iolaus foram atacados por um pelotão de guardas do rei, esses simplesmente congelam de pavor tão logo Timuron apareceu na frente deles.
Daphne voltou para casa, profundamente abalada e confusa, e Hercules estava lá esperando por ela. Ele explicou sua missão e o trágico destino de Timuron, e pediu a ela que o ajudasse a entrar no palácio, para que pudesse capturar o rei e retornar para Hades.
Daphne concordou e conseguiu que eles entrassem sem ser vistos pelos guardas, e os levou diretamente à câmara do rei, onde eles o capturaram. Enquanto esperava em outra sala, a jovem viúva foi uma vez mais visitada pelo seu amado Timuron. Tomada de amor e emoção, ela lhe disse que queria morrer, e assim poderiam ficar juntos para sempre nos Campos Elísios.
Timuron correu para pedir ajuda a Hercules. Deixando Iolaus com o rei, o filho de Zeus chegou bem a tempo de impedir que a jovem se atirasse do alto da torre.
Hercules então voltou para onde estava Iolaus, para descobrir que o amigo fora feito prisioneiro pela rainha Karis e os guardas do rei. Sisyphus ordenou que levassem Daphne à sua câmara. Contudo, Karis, ao descobrir as intenções e a traição do esposo, ficou enraivecida.
Instalou-se, então, uma furiosa batalha, quando Iolaus conseguiu soltar as mãos usando uma faca atirada na sua direção pelo invisível Timuron, que, materializando-se uma vez mais, fez os guardas do rei fugirem tomados de terror.
No final, Daphne e a rainha Karis ajudaram Hercules a capturar o rei antes que ele conseguisse escapar. Hercules devolveu Sisyphus a Hades já quase para expirar o prazo, e convenceu o deus do Submundo – que era afinal seu tio – a quebrar as regras e conceder um breve momento de contato entre Timuron e Daphne, para que pudessem viver sua noite de núpcias antes de dizer um ao outro adeus para sempre.

Esse episódio é muito legal e seria estrasnhíssimo se não fosse a sutileza da série... aquilo que poderia ser tenebroso ficou leve e muitas momentos engraçado.
Aquilo que parecia perdido para sempre, o amor e o momento de união do casal, é resolvido porque Hércules se importava.
